Claire Dillehay was born on August 20th, 1982 on a hot summer’s day. Her childhood consisted of laughing, playing, and endless hours of escaping into an imaginary world of art and fantasy. Art was a part of her life at a very early age. Knowing that she wanted to make art a part of her professional life and career, she attended Herron School of Art and Design and graduated with both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Art Education. She now works as an elementary art teacher and gives art lessons as SoArt’s Educational Activity Coordinator at the Southport Community Building. In her spare time, she paints, draws, and regresses back to her childhood days. The main inspiration for her work is provided by the inner workings of the subconscious mind. A surrealist at heart, she explores the world of dreams in a realistic manner. It is her belief that our dreams are as real as anything we see or hear in the real world. Furthermore, she believe that art and dreams are much alike, They are both methods of escaping reality and they both can provide greater meaning beyond our rational thinking.
